Riders of every age will turn tight circles around the barrels Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, when the October Barrel Bash comes to the Merrill Fairgrounds, 1200 E. First St.
The barrel race, co-sponsored by the Lincoln County Rodeo Association, is open to experienced competitors and young riders alike, with belt buckles and paybacks on the line. Spectators are invited to come watch the action from the stands, and concessions will be available.
The day starts early. Exhibition runs open at 7:30 a.m., giving riders a chance to warm up their horses and get a feel for the arena. The open 4D competition begins at 9 a.m. Organizers said that all times are approximate and may shift during the day.
The 4D race is open to all riders, with an entry fee of $25. Exhibition runs cost $3.
Youth and adult classes will follow, running in order by age group: Pee Wee (11 and under), Junior (12 to 18), and Senior (18+). Each group will compete in barrels, poles, plug, flag, and the LT Special. Entry for all classes is $5.
For local families, the event is an affordable way for young riders to test their skills in front of a hometown crowd, and for everyone else, it’s a chance to spend a fall Saturday watching horses and riders race against the clock. Who knows? There may be a few future rodeo stars at this event working their way up to the pro circuit.
