The Hatchet girls hockey pushed Northland Pines to the limit in last Friday’s home contest, then got postponed out of Monday’s challenge with Waupaca, first in the GNC at 4-0 and 12-1 overall.
The Hatchets are 3-3 in the GNC and 4-4-1 overall.
Tomahawk trailed Pines 2-0 late in the second period before cutting it to 2-1 on Vallier’s unassisted goal. The visitors pushed it to 3-1 just seconds into the third, but Vallier gave THS a chance with an unassisted, short-handed score with 2:43 left. Pines weathered a final storm.
“Erin Sparks shut down 47 shots and kept the Hatchets in the game all night,” Vallier said. “Erin has been a leader and the backbone of the team in her sophomore year, tallying four shutouts already only nine games into the season.
“Tomahawk played Pines score-wise as well as they have for three years, and showed themselves they can play with any team if they put their minds to the task.
