Ceremonies remembering American’s fallen veterans will take place at cemeteries throughout the area on Monday, May 26, 2025.
Merrill City Band will play at 10:30 a.m. as the community gathers at the veterans memorial located in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, 2700 Thielman St. in Merrill. (Bring your own lawn chair.)
This year’s program will include opening remarks from Corey Dornbrack from Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Schmitt-Manecke-Donner Post 1638 and an invocation by St. Francis Xavier Deacon Jim Arndt, music by the Merrill City Band, and the traditional laying of the wreaths. New this year, a flyover is planned during the ceremony, new permanent displays and tributes to our fallen heroes will be unveiled, with an emphasis on local veterans, and U.S. Congressman Tom Tiffany will be the keynote speaker. Wisconsin State Assemblyman Calvin Callahan will also be in attendance to provide a cemetery certification. The program itself begins at exactly 11 a.m.
In case of inclement weather, the program will move to the Northwoods Veterans Post at 601 Johnson St. in Merrill.
