Uniquely Wisconsin secures third Emmy nomination with Lincoln County story

On Sept. 30, 2025, Discover Wisconsin announced their sister brand, Uniquely Wisconsin, which focuses on showcasing the unique stories of Wisconsin’s communities, was nominnated for an Emmy Award at the 67th Chicago/Midwest Emmy Awards in the category of Outstanding Achievement for Human Interest Short Form Content. The award ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
The nominated video highlighting Lincoln County, “Wisconsin Musher & the Love for Their Dogs: Beauty Behind Dog Sledding,” shares the inspiring story of musher Melissa Omernick in Gleason. Through stunning visuals and heartfelt narration, the episode explores her passion for dog sledding and the profound bond she shares with her team of sled dogs.
The production faced numerous challenges, including the cancellation of the entire sled dog racing season due to an unprecedented lack of snow when they were planning to film, which forced a pivot from covering competition to focusing on the heart of the sport: its people and their deep roots in the region.
“This nomination is a proud moment for Lincoln County,” said Renee Krueger, Lincoln County Administrative Coordinator. “The story captures not just a sport, but the deep connections and traditions that define our community. We’re honored to have our county and its people represented through this beautiful and inspiring episode.”
