Two sex offenders now living in Merrill

The following release is in accordance with Wisconsin State Statute 301.46(2m).
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin Department of Corrections-Probation and Parole are notifying the public of the release of two convicted sex offenders.
• Brian Shepler (DOB: May 27, 1988) was convicted and sentenced to prison on two counts of Possession of Child Pornography. He was released from prison on May 28, 2024, and will be residing in Merrill. Mr. Shepler is on extended supervision with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections and is on lifetime GPS monitoring. He is a lifetime registrant with the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry Program.
• Alexander M. Schultz (DOB: July 29, 1992) was released to extended supervision with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections on April 1, 2025, and will be residing in Merrill. He was convicted and sentenced to prison for 3rd Degree Sexual Assault and 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of a Child. Mr. Schultz is on extended supervision with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections and is on lifetime GPS monitoring. He is a lifetime registrant with the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry Program.

This notification is not intended to increase fear; rather, it is law enforcement’s belief that an informed public is a safer public.
Sex offenders have always lived in our communities, but it was not until the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry and Community Notification Law was enacted that law enforcement was able to share this information with the public.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office cannot control the release or placement of a sex offender. If you do have any questions or concerns, please contact the Department of Corrections at 715.536.5633.
