New A&W Restaurant set to open in Merrill on Monday

The building on the corner of E. Third St. and N. Center Ave. in Merrill that was formerly a Hardee’s Restaurant has been refurbished into a new A&W Restaurant. Deanne “Dee” and Jerry Wells of Withee purchased the property in 2024 and completely renovated the property, making it their sixth A&W location in the state. [A more in-depth story will be included in our upcoming Merrill Profile Book.] In recent months, activity outside the building has been increasing, as contractors replaced the roof, worked on landscaping, painted, and did interior work.
Then the restaurant’s new General Manager, Dawn Wolfe, was busy conducting interviews to hire a full staff and conduct training to prepare for the opening.
In Nov. 2024, the A&W Restaurant franchise announced it was expanding its brand in Wisconsin and would be adding two to four new locations in Madison, three to five locations in Milwaukee, and this location in Merrill.
The Merrill Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting welcoming the new restaurant to Merrill on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025, just prior to the restaurant’s first day opening for business.
Merrill’s new A&W Restaurant on N. Center Ave. is set to open to the public at 10 a.m. this Monday, Jan. 13.
