Lions to mark National Diabetes Alert Day with local informational booths on March 24

Posted

The Merrill Lions Club and Gleason Area Lions Club will sponsor informational booths at two Merrill locations on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, in recognition of National Diabetes Alert Day.
Booths will be set up at both Dave’s County Market and Walgreens from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Lions members will be on hand to answer questions and distribute brochures and educational materials about diabetes — including how to recognize it and how to manage it.
The fourth Tuesday of March has been designated National Diabetes Alert Day by the American Diabetes Association. The Wisconsin Lions Foundation and Lions clubs statewide are participating in awareness efforts this year.
According to the CDC (2017–2018 data), approximately 30.3 million Americans — about 9.4% of the population — have diabetes, and roughly 84.1 million have prediabetes. Of those with diabetes, an estimated 7 million remain undiagnosed. The direct and indirect costs of the disease are estimated at $245 billion annually.
Those unable to attend a booth event can take an online diabetes risk assessment at stopdiabetes.com/get-the-facts/risk-test.html.
