Lincoln County snowmobile and winter ATV trails in zones 2, 3 and 4 are open

Posted

Lincoln County’s funded snowmobile trails in Zones 2, 3, and 4 opened Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, according to Nick Behrens, Recreation Forester for the Lincoln County Forestry, Land and Parks Department. Trails in Zone 1 and the Hiawatha Trail remain open.
The F Trail between intersections 56 and 57 in Zone 2 is closed for the season.
Winter ATV trails in Zones 2, 3, and 4 opened at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27. Not all snowmobile trails are open to winter ATV use. Trail maps are available at co.lincoln.wi.us/recreation/page/snowmobile-and-winter-atv-trail-maps. Winter ATV use on trails is not permitted when the temperature is above 28°F.
Behrens said trails are still in early-season condition. Riders should expect rough stretches, icy stretches with minimal snow cover, and potential debris including branches or leaning trees.
“We kindly ask riders to follow all ‘TRAIL CLOSED’ signs, stay on marked routes, and respect private property,” Behrens said. “Our trail system exists thanks to the generosity of local landowners, and your cooperation helps keep these trails open for everyone to enjoy.”

Local snowmobile clubs remind riders to stay off lakes and rivers unless a trail has been clearly marked by a club.
Behrens thanked local snowmobile clubs for their work preparing the trails and encouraged riders to thank volunteers, consider joining a club, and support the organizations through active participation. He also encouraged riders to patronize local businesses that sponsor and support the clubs.
