Four Merrill swimmers advance to State in six events

The Merrill Girls Varsity Swim Team competed at the WIAA Girls Division 2 Sectionals at Rice Lake on Friday, Nov. 8, 2025. Four Merrill girls qualified to advance to State competition in six different events — two relay events and four individual events.
“Overall, it was a very successful end of the year meet with the girls qualifying in six events,” said Merrill Girls Varsity Swim Team Head Coach Taylor McFarlane.
Merrill girls moved on to State in the following events:
• 200 Yard Medley Relay - Addison Jirovec (backstroke), Abigail Parks (breaststroke), Marissa Miles (butterfly), Claire Jirovec (freestyle) - taking fourth place
• 50 Yard Freestyle - Claire Jirovec - taking sixth place

• 100 Yard Freestyle - Claire Jirovec - taking fourth place
• 100 Yard Butterfly - Marissa Miles - taking third place
• 100 Yard Breaststroke - Marissa Miles - taking fifth place
• 400 Yard Free Relay - Addison Jirovec, Abigail Parks, Marissa Miles, Claire Jirovec - taking fourth place

WIAA Girls Division 2 State competition

At the WIAA Girls Division 2 State competition at Waukesha South on Friday, Nov. 14, one Merrill swimmer came away with an impressive third place finish in her individual event. Marissa Miles took third place in the 100 Yard Butterfly event. She was the top performer for Merrill at State.
In five other events, Merrill girls placed 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, and 16th.

13th place - 200 Yard Medley Relay (Addison Jirovec, Abbie Parks, Marissa Miles, Claire Jirovec) - Time: 1:56.25
16th place - 50 Yard Freestyle (Claire Jirovec) - Time: 25.85

3rd place - 100 Yard Butterfly (Marissa Miles) - Time: 58.86
14th place - 100 Yard Freestyle (Claire Jirovec) - Time: 56.16
11th place - 100 Yard Breaststroke (Marissa Miles) - Time: 1:09.76
12th place - 400 Yard Freestyle Relay (Addison Jirovec, Abbie Parks, Marissa Miles, Claire Jirovec) - Time: 3:51.48
“Our girls performed phenomenally, and I am so proud of them,” McFarlane said.
Overall, Merrill was 16th in the state at the State competition.
