Bluejay Trap Team competes at State, Kufahl takes first place in her division

Posted

On Friday, June 20, 2025, the Merrill Bluejays Trap Team traveled to the State Championship Trap Tournament in Rome, Wis., to represent Merrill.
Fifty athletes made the trip, and of those attendees, 11 athletes shot a 90 or above final score. It was a scorcher, but the Bluejays represented their team in fine form. Many athletes shot 24’s during their rounds.
Merrill’s Malayna Kufahl, age 12, took first place at State for Entry Level-First Year Female Athletes in her division. “We’re so proud,” Coaches said. “Our Bluejays showed up for this shoot.”
Malayna’s sister, Lily Kufahl, took sixth place. She was in a fifth-place tie, but narrowly lost that spot due to her reverse run score.
In team placements, the Merrill Bluejays Varsity Trap Team took 8th place out of 91 teams and the JV Trap Team took 7th place out of 83 teams.
In Entry Level Advanced, Merrill’s Trap Team took 13th place out of 76 teams, and the Entry Level Trap Team took 11th place out of 69 teams.
That’s a pretty “phenomenal showing,” one coach said.
