The Merrrill baseball team used a six run fourth inning, sparked by a Koredell Renken home run, to defeat Medford on Monday in a rain shortened game.

Merrill would get on the board first, scoring two runs in the top of the second inning. With runners on second and third base Chase Bonnell stepped up to the plate and doubled to left field, driving in both runners. A sloppy bottom of the second inning would cost Merrill four runs, as Medford took a 4-2 lead.

Another Medford run crossed the plate in the bottom of the third inning, however Merrill would respond with a big fourth inning to regain the lead. With a runner on third base Bonnell hit a fly ball to the outfield, allowing the runner to tag up and score. Later in the inning Piersen Pyan came the plate with the bases loaded and singled to left field to score a runner, however an out would be made at second base on the play. Renken followed Pyan with a three run homer to claim a 7-5 lead for Merrill. The Jays scored their final run in the top of the fifth inning on a walk.

In the bottom of the fifth inning Medford struck back with two runs, however would fall short as the game was called after the inning due to rain.

Alex Mann started on the mound for the Jays and pitched two innings, giving up four runs. Cody Depies stepped in for the final three innings and allowed two runs.

Leading hitters for the Jays include: Kordell Renken (H, 3RBI, HR), Chase Bonnell (H, 3RBI, double), Piersen Pyan (2H, RBI, R) and Ethan Schelbert (2H, R).
