On Tuesday night the Merrill baseball team traveled to Wisconsin Dells for a doubleheader with the Marshfield Tigers. In the front end of the two games the Jays would lose by a final score of 9-3.

Merrill would be the first team to find the scoreboard, as they plated one runner in the top of the second inning. With runners on first and third the Marshfield pitcher balked, advancing the runners one base and scoring Kordell Renken from third. It wasn’t long before the Tigers struck back, scoring one in the bottom of the second inning and three runs in the third inning to take a 4-1 lead on the Jays.

The Bluejays scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning, however they wouldn’t be able to keep pace with the Tigers. Marshfield responded with three runs in their half of the fifth, followed by two more runs in the sixth inning to take a commanding 9-3 win over Merrill.

Chase Bonnell started on the mound for Merrill and pitched for 4.2 innings. Bonnell allowed five earned runs on nine hits, while striking out one batter and walking three. Jayden Sus finished the game and allowed two runs on three hits, with one walk and one strikeout.

Jays lose game two

In the back end of the doubleheader the Jays would struggle to score runs, as the Tigers score six in a 6-2 victory over Merrill.

Marshfield got on the board early, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Merrill came back with one run of their own in the bottom of the second inning.

The Tigers extended their lead in the top of the third inning, scoring three more runs. In the bottom of the fourth inning the Jays scored their final run of the game, coming on a Kordell Renken sacrifice fly out. Marshfield would later score another run to make the score 6-2 and take the win.

Spencer Schneider started on the bump for the Jays. Schneider pitched three innings and gave up four earned runs on seven hits, while striking out two batters. Holden Smith threw for the final four innings, allowing only one run on two hits, while striking out five batters and walking five.
