Town of Scott barn fire results in total loss

Early Tuesday morning, the Merrill Fire Department responded to the report of a barn fire in the Town of Scott.

According to a press release issued by the department, even though MFD crews arrived within minutes of the page, the barn was already lost. Firefighters immediately focused on protecting other structures near the barn, which were starting to smolder. A large chicken coop, machine shed, and pull-behind camper were saved, only suffering minimal damage. Fire personnel from the Towns of Corning, Hamburg, Maine, and Pine River also assisted. Emergency crews transported approximately 33,000 gallons of water to the scene. Tomahawk EMS provided ambulance coverage for a portion of the emergency. Deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office provided traffic control at the scene and Wisconsin Public Service personnel controlled the utilities.
While the barn was a complete loss, all animals were uninjured. One firefighter did suffer a minor knee injury.
At the time of publication, the cause of the fire was still undetermined.
