Softball tallies second win of the season

On Tuesday afternoon the Merrill softball team traveled to the Woodside Sports Complex in Wisconsin Dells for a game against Medford. Merrill played well and would beat Medford by a score of 6-1.

The Jays would strike in the first inning with Kelsie Belfiori drawing a walk on a wild pitch, allowing Hannah Losee to score from third. After a quite second inning Medford would tie the game at 1-1 with an RBI single.

It wouldn’t take Merrill long to respond as Nicloe Zoellner got the fourth inning started with a triple. Zoellner would then score on a Kendall Krueger single to right field. In the top of the fifth inning Losee led off with a solo homerun, giving Merrill the 3-1 advantage. A Belfiori single, followed by a Ally Semling double would score another Bluejay run. Semling later scored on a passed ball to extend the lead to 5-1.

Kendall Krueger led off the sixth inning with a walk and was moved over to second base on a sacrifice bunt. Courtney Krueger then dorve in Kendall with a double to center field, bringing to the score to 6-1.

Leading hitter for Merrill include: Hannah Losee (2H, 2R, RBI, HR), Kelsie Belfiori (2H, 1R, BB), Ally Semling (1H, 1R, RBI, BB), Courtney Krueger (1H, 1RBI) and Kendall Krueger (1H, RBI, BB).

Belfiori did the pitching for Merrill, going all seven innings while allowing only one run on six hits. Belfiori also struck out five and walked only one.
