Highway department addresses damaged mailboxes

Lincoln County Highway Commissioner John Hanz is advising county residents that the highway department will not be repairing mailboxes which may be damaged as a result of snow plowing operations. Hanz stated the department has received numerous phone calls from residents on the matter.
“The Highway Department will not repair damaged mailboxes due to the extreme winter weather. In most cases our drivers just can’t see mailboxes due to the high snow banks. ” he stated. “The cost and the work required to repair or replace every mailbox would be incredible. Our top priority is keeping the roadways plowed.”

Hanz would also like to remind the public that’s it’s illegal to plow snow into the roadways and it’s very dangerous for passing motorists. The Highway Department will notify the Sheriff’s department of any hazards.

The Highway Departments top priority is safety.
