Lloyd H. Schneider

Lloyd H. Schneider, age 93, of Merrill, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Good Samaritan Health Center. He was born August 7, 1925 in the Town of Pine River to the late Henry and Martha (Schepp) Schneider. On August 28, 1948 Lloyd married the love of his life, Dorothy Hinz, and moved her up the hill to the farm.   She survives.

Lloyd owned and operated a Guernsey dairy farm with his brother, Ron, until he retired in 1988. He then drove school bus for 18 years and made lasting friendships with his bus kids. Lloyd also worked as a sanitation engineer at Goetsch’s for 14 years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill.

Lloyd loved the outdoors. He hunted and fished his whole life. He especially enjoyed running and hunting bear with his grandkids. He was a member of F Troop Bear Hunters. Deer season found him in the woods hunting whitetail, and going out west to hunt mule deer. Many summers were spent on Lake Superior and Lake Michigan pulling out the big ones, and winters at Devil’s Lake in North Dakota pulling out some more big ones.

Lloyd kept busy with many hobbies including gardening, wine making, maple syrup cooking, sausage making and smoking, snowmobiling, ice skating and “clowning” around at the Labor Day parades. Lloyd played on the church dartball team for 64+ years. He was also a longtime volunteer in 4-H dairy judging at the Lincoln County Fair. Friday nights you might have found him enjoying a fish fry and old fashioned at Schult’s. Lloyd was also an avid Sheepshead player. Sunday was devoted to church and the Green Bay Packers. Lloyd was a great storyteller with a special sense of humor.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, five children: Gary, Barbara (Douglas) Plautz, Ken Schneider, Donna Plautz, and Kathryn (Brad) Pepke, all of Merrill; 11 grandchildren; 7 great- grandchildren and one more on the way; sisters: Joyce Henrich, and Judy (Jerry) Moeck, Woodruff; brother: Ronald (Shirley) Schneider; and many nieces, nephews,  and honorary grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Dillon.

Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Monday, January 7th at Waid Funeral Home and again from 10 AM until the time of service at the church Tuesday. Burial will follow in Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery.
