Lady Jays slip past Portage

On Thursday night the Merrill girls basketball team played against Portage High School. It was a very close game, however the Jays would come out on top, keeping a perfect non conference record with a 40-38 win. The first half of the game was a back and forth battle with Portage taking a slight advantage into halftime, leading the Jays 21-20.

Merrill came out in the second half and outscored Portage 20-17, enough for the 40-38 win. Merrill was led by Ashley Prebeg who scored 14 points with nine rebounds and two blocks. Dalie Thomas had 10 points in the game along with four rebounds and two assists. Elizabeth Iribarren had six points and 10 rebounds and Courtney Krueger had four points, seven rebounds and four assists.

With this win Merrill is now 7-3 overall on the season, with all three of their losses coming to Wisconsin Valley Conference teams.

The Jays will be back in action on Friday as they travel to Wisconsin Rapids for a conference match up, starting at 7:15 p.m.
