Bluejay grapplers place 4th at Papermaker Invite

The Merrill wrestling team traveled to Kimberly for the Papermaker Invitational on Saturday. The Jays had a strong showing, taking fourth place out of 16 teams and having seven wrestlers finish top five.
The top five finishers include Trevor Schenzel who after receiving a bye the first two rounds won the third round before losing twice. Jacob Woller won his first match by major decision, however would fall in round three and finish in fifth at 126 pounds. At 138 pounds Cody Depies took fifth place, winning his first match before falling in the third round. Casey Hoffman took fifth place at 145 pounds, winning his first match, losing the second and winning the consolation bracket. At 182 pounds Bradley Leiskau placed third, winning his first three rounds before falling in the championship bracket. Walker Bathke took fifth place at 220 pounds, receiving a bye in the first two rounds, falling in the third and winning the fifth place match. Zach Iribarren took second place at 285 pounds, winning his four matches before falling in the championship.
The Jays will be back in action on Thursday as they host Wausau East at 7 p.m.
