Local Trooper recognized for commendable service

The Wisconsin State Patrol’s annual awards ceremony, held Thursday, Oct. 11 at the State Capitol, recognized 25 law enforcement officers for lifesaving efforts and exemplary public service.
“Wisconsin is extremely fortunate to have so many outstanding law enforcement officers and emergency responders,” Governor Scott Walker said. “These annual awards serve as powerful reminders of their extraordinary courage and dedication to duty.”

Among those honored was Sergeant Robert Hartson of Merrill, who received the Superintendent’s Star of Recognition Award, which recognizes distinguished or exceptional achievements in the performance of duties.

Hartson is currently a supervisor in the State Patrol’s 18-county North Central Region, Sergeant Hartson also oversees 15 members of the State Patrol’s Honor Guard Unit. Last year, the Honor Guard was deployed to 51 ceremonial events including funerals for law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty. Under Sergeant Hartson’s leadership, the Honor Guard Unit is widely commended for its professionalism.
