Wickman attains Eagle Scout rank

Boy Scout Troop 599 of Merrill has added another Eagle Scout to its ranks. Alex Wickman earned his Eagle Rank on June 18, 2018 at the age of 15.

Alex has been involved in scouting since he was in the first grade, as a Tiger Scout. As a Cub Scout he participated in Akela’s World and the Pine Wood Derby. On Feb. 16, 2014, Alex earned the Arrow of Light, the highest achievement in Cub Scouts and crossed over to Boy Scout Troop 599.

On July 29, 2015, Alex was inducted into the Order of the Arrow and received his Brotherhood on July 28, 2016. Alex completed National Youth Leadership Training in June of 2016. Alex has served Troop 599 in the following leadership positions; Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, Patrol Leader, Den Chief, and Leave No Trace Coordinator. He attended the 2017 National Boy Scout Jamboree held at the Summit Bechtel Reserve, in West Virginia.

Alex’s Eagle Scout Project consisted of designing and constructing a garden shed at Pine Crest Nursing Home with help from other Boy Scouts in Troop 599. The shed is utilized by the residents to participate in gardening, mini golf and by the staff as a storage area for outdoor equipment. He has earned 23 merit badges.

Alex is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He is a Sophomore at Merrill High School. He participates in Ski Club. He enjoys snowboarding, wake surfing, wakeboarding, camping, hunting, and trap. Alex is the son of Joe and Kim Wickman.
