A structure fire was reported on Wednesday on Lon Bosco Lane in the Town of Harrison at 11:21 a.m. The property owner stated he started a fire in a wood stove in an out building shortly before the building was found engulfed in flames.

Three Merrill teenagers will be referred to the DNR for poaching deer. At 1:08 a.m. deputies responded to Sunset Drive in the Town of Scott after receiving the report of seeing flashlights in the woods. When they arrived they found two 16-year-olds from Merrill and an 18-year-old male from Athens. They told deputies they had struck a deer with their vehicle and were searching for it. Deputies were unable to identify fresh damage and the group admitted to shooting a deer with a bow. The bow and the suspects were turned over to the DNR.

A 29-year-old Merrill man was arrested Thursday after deputies investigated a report of a domestic incident in the Town of Merrill. The man was arrested for battery and disorderly conduct.

Two people were injured after a single vehicle crash Saturday afternoon in the Town of Harrison just after 2 p.m. on State Rd. 17. The driver, an 83-year-old Rhinelander woman, was traveling north when her vehicle left the roadway and crashed causing injuries to her and her passenger, an 85-year-old Rhinelander man. Both were transported to Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

A 50-year-old Irma woman was arrested late Saturday evening on a charge of battery. Deputies went to a home in the Town of Birch just after 10 p.m. after receiving a 911 call of a disturbance.

The number of deer crashes has tripled from the prior week. With the change in temperature, deer are moving much more at night. Motorists are reminded to use caution for the next month as these numbers historically increase. Also this past week a Waukesha man struck a bear Wednesday evening on USH 51.
