Make a difference in the economic development of Lincoln County

The Building Merrill Together Program Series continues as citizens and city and county officials dig deeper to explore the assets and challenges faced in developing Lincoln County’s economy. The discussion will highlight citizen reflection on the area’s economy and help guide area residents and Lincoln County Board officials as they work toward creating a vibrant economic environment that will help to sustain and attract others to the area.

What are the historic, cultural and economic assets of Lincoln County? What makes Lincoln County vibrant? How can we continue to invigorate this wonderful region of Wisconsin now and in the future? Through the Building Merrill Together Program Series, the T. B. Scott Library is inviting all citizens of Lincoln County to explore these questions by looking into the past, present and future and talking about issues important to working people in Lincoln County.

The second event of this series on economic development will be on Oct. 2 from 6-8 p.m. in the Lincoln County Services Center Upper Level Assembly Room. A focus group format with members of the Lincoln County Board and citizens-at-large will explore Lincoln County’s assets and challenges regarding economic development to stimulate a continued in-depth discussion about rural, city and governmental collaborations, marketing themes, and other county-enhancement strategies.

The goals of this Economic Development Series are to: more specifically define what economic development means for Lincoln County’s past, present and future; articulate what we are currently doing regarding economic development and why; understand at a deeper level what our individual and collective thinking is about Lincoln County’s assets and challenges regarding economic development; and utilize rural, city and county government collaboration strategies to enhance policy decisions. This approach is driven by the belief that public reflection on what it means to make a living and make a life in Lincoln County and exploring public policy issues such as economic development will lead to the implementation of creative ideas and plans that are truly citizen, community and governmental based.
