Merrill City Band on parade

The Merrill City Band returns to the gazebo in Normal Park for its weekly concert tonight. Since the group did not have a concert near the 4th this year, a few patriotic selections will be programmed, including the opener “Lincoln Legacy” and the ever-popular closer, “The Stars and Stripes Forever.” A variety of other works round out the concert, including a rhumba, a Carpenter’s ballad, “Kije’s Wedding,” “It’s Only A Paper Moon,” a dixieland piece, a polka, a few marches, a medley of tunes from the ‘90s (1890s, that is), a George M. Cohan medley, and, of course, something just for the kids preceding the kiddie parade through the park.
Delicious concessions will be available from HAVEN and the Band Boosters. Gift certificates from local businesses will be raffled off as part of the weekly 50/50 raffle. Bring a lawn chair and come out to hear the sounds of the Merrill City Band beginning at 7 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, including extreme heat and humidity, the band will move to Les and Jim’s.
