Lincoln County Sheriff’s reports

On Monday just after 3 p.m. a crash was reported on US Hwy. 51 at County Rd. S. At 3:30 p.m. a southbound vehicle towing a boat lost a tire off the trailer which landed in the median, the hot rim caused a grass fire north of County Rd. C. The fire backed up traffic for miles and was responsible for at least one more crash near Lincoln Drive. Traffic was backed up until 6 p.m. when the disabled boat trailer was finally removed. Deputies also checked on several disabled vehicles which stalled out while waiting in traffic.

A 27-year-old Wausau man was arrested Saturday morning after deputies investigated a suspicious person. The man was arrested on a charge of resisting arrest along with warrants from the Oneida County Sheriff for failing to pay fines, he was also charged with violating the terms of his probation.

A 36-year-old Merrill man was cited on Saturday evening for a first offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. The man came to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and informed a deputy that he had crashed his vehicle on State Rd. 107 at Swede Road and he wished to be arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. The driver said he flagged down a passing motorist to give him a ride to the jail. The man was cited and released.

A 56-year-old Tomahawk man was arrested Sunday evening after deputies investigated a disturbance in the Town of Bradley. Deputies went to the home just after 5 p.m. after receiving a report of a fight. The suspect was arrested for domestic battery.

The number of vehicle deer crashes remains high with 14 being reported this past week. A bear was found struck early Sunday morning on County Rd. Z east of State Rd. 107 in the Town of Corning. On Sunday afternoon a man from South Dakota received minor injuries after striking a deer with his vehicle on US Hwy. 51 near Lincoln Drive. He refused transport from the ambulance that responded to the scene.
