Merrill Police reports

April 30
12:40 a.m.- An officer observed a vehicle traveling on East Main Street at a high rate of speed. The officer activated his emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop and the vehicle continued on. The vehicle eventually stopped at a business and the driver began walking inside. Contact was made with the male subject who displayed signs indicative of impairment. Field sobriety tests were attempted but the male was unable to complete the tests. He was arrested for operating while under the influence 1st offense.
8:08 a.m.- An officer took a report of damage to a retaining wall. No known suspects at this time.
2:54 p.m.- An officer conducted a traffic stop for speed. A passenger in the vehicle was found to have a warrant for their arrest through Marathon County. The male was taken into custody and transported to the jail.
8:21 p.m.- Officers responded to a report of two individuals that were fighting. Officers located the one subject and she denied anything physical had taken place. She was found to have a warrant for her arrest. She was taken into custody and transported to the jail.

May 1
1 p.m.- An officer took a report of individuals that had gone to a business and operated pieces of equipment while the business was closed. Suspects were identified and the investigation is ongoing.
4:22 p.m.- Officers were requested by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections Probation and Parole to respond to their office and take a male into custody for a probation violation. The male was taken into custody and transported to the jail.

May 2
2:06 p.m.- An officer responded to a theft complaint. The caller advised they had their 8-speed mountain bike stolen. Investigation is ongoing.

May 3
10:50 a.m.- An officer took a report of a theft of a package that had just been delivered to a residence. It was confirmed by the Post Office that the package had been delivered. The investigation is ongoing.
2:09 p.m.- Officers were requested by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections Probation and Parole to respond to their office and take a male into custody for a probation violation. The male was taken into custody and transported to the jail.
4:15 p.m.- Officers were requested by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections Probation and Parole to respond to their office and take a male into custody for a probation violation. The male was taken into custody and transported to the jail.
5:40 p.m.- An officer took a report of damage to the windshields of three vehicles that were parked behind a residence. The investigation is ongoing.

May 4
9:36 p.m.- An officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a speed related violation. The male driver of the vehicle was found to have a warrant out of Oneida County. The male was placed under arrest and was taken to jail.
11:35 p.m.- An officer located a damaged street sign and some vehicle parts lying in the street. Another officer located a vehicle parked nearby which had damage consistent with the crash. The male driver of this vehicle was located with the vehicle and displayed signs of impairment. The male was placed through field sobriety tests and as a result was placed under arrest for drug related OWI 1st Offense. The male was later released to a responsible party. The same individual later reported his bike stolen, but called back minutes later to report that he found it located on the other side of his garage.

May 5
7:10 p.m.- Officers responded to a report of a disturbance. Two neighbors began an argument after their dogs began to fight after one dog got away from the person who was walking it. This caused the dog owners to yell at each other and it was reported that profanity was used in the presence of children and other bystanders. The parties were warned for the disorderly conduct.

May 6
2:47 p.m.- Officers investigated a report of a person entering the caller’s home without her permission. As a result of an investigation, a male was arrested for criminal trespass to a dwelling and bail jumping and was transported to jail.
