Keith “Jim” VenRooy, age 85, passed away Monday, March 19, 2018 at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill. He was born October 22, 1932 in Colby to the late Norbert and Elva (Olson) VenRooy. On June 9, 1960, Keith and Frances Boland were united in marriage in Pine City, MN, a union that would last nearly 35 years. Sadly, she preceded him in death March 10, 1995.
Keith served his country in the Army and was honored for his service by taking the Never Forgotten Honor Flight in 2016, a trip he truly enjoyed. He was a farmer for many years and, after his farming days, owned and operated Toots and Jim’s Bar. Keith had many hobbies, including gardening, cooking, shooting pool, dart ball, dancing and horseshoes but his favorite time was spent with family, whom he deeply treasured. He was an avid Green Bay Packer and Brewer fan and enjoyed every game he watched. Keith will be remembered as a hard-working man who loved to laugh and was loved by many. He was also a Life Member of the VFW Post #10203, a Korean Veteran and a member of the Eagle’s Club.
Survivors include his five children: Guy (Sharon) Hartl, Robin (James) Johnson, Kerry (Mariann) VenRooy, Keith (Liz) VenRooy Jr. and Trudy (Craig) Hall; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and four siblings: Donald VenRooy, Dorothy Bowman, Patsy (Tom) Melback and Sandy (Dave) Donatell. He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Frances, son, Vaughn “Jay” VenRooy, daughter, Brenda Pyan and brothers Peter and Richard VenRooy.
