MHS art show to feature Empty Bowls fundraiser

A special feature of this year’s Merrill High School Open House and Art Show will be an Empty Bowls fundraiser, benefiting both the high school’s in-house food pantry and the new Habitat House homeless shelter in Merrill.

Art students at Merrill High School and Prairie River Middle School have created more than 100 unique bowls, which will be sold at the open house on March 3 for a minimum donation of $10 each. Those who purchase bowls can enjoy soups prepared by the high school’s culinary arts students, served in disposable bowls from 1-3 p.m. during the art show and open house. Agriculture students at the high school grew some of the herbs used in the soups.

The annual Open House and Art Show will honor the 16 student mural artists on March 3 from 1–4 p.m. at the high school. Recognition of the artists will take place at 3 p.m. in the commons. This year’s artists include Eve Akey, Rachel Berg, Allison Smith, Ananda VanWie, Makyah Goetsch, Bailey Iwen, Betsy Schmidt, Kaitlyn Arndt, Eliana Emmer, Erin Lemke, Kate Peterson, Skylar Stubbe, Zoe Slewitzke, Emerson Millis, Olivia Baumann and Cristiana Wood.
