Six Bluejays earn All-Confernce

On Saturday the Merrill wrestling team traveled to Wausau East for their confernce meet. Although the Bluejays struggled as a team taking 6th place, they were able to get six wrestlers with All-Confernce honors. The six Wrestlers include Bradley Leiskau (170 pounds), Walker Bathke (195 pounds), Tanner Depies (113 pounds), Carter Bayer (145 pounds), Wyatt Koehler (160 pounds) and Zach Iribarren (Heavyweight).

Bradley Leiskau and Walker Bathke each made it to the championship match and both would fall, taking second place. Coach Brian Suchocki had this to say about the performance of Leiskau and Bathke, “It was great to see Walker and Bradley make the finals. They both put together good tournaments and are wrestling well.”

The other four wrestlers to get All-Conference, all over achieved taking third place and they all finished higher than they were seeded coming into the meet. “Zach, Tanner, Carter and Wyatt all put in solid efforts. Each of them placed higher then they were seeded.” Comments coach Suchocki.

The Bluejays would end the meet ahead of only Wausau East in points with 132, only six points behind fifth place Wisconsin Rapids. Despite the team struggles coach Suchocki has his eyes set on Regionals saying, “Next week will be another good challenge for us. We wrestle at Wisconsin Rapids for the regional tournament. The goal will be to advance as many wrestlers as we can to the Sectional tournament.”

Next Saturday the Bluejays will hit the road going to Wisconsin Rapids for the Regional meet.
