T.B. Scott Free Library Adult Department announces the continuation of the Building Merrill Together Program Series with a dynamic community discussion to help address the challenges we face in caring for the elderly in our community.
“A Touch of Gray: Serving Our Aging Population in Merrill” will be held Jan. 15 from 6-8 p.m. in the T. B. Scott Free Library Community Room.
Many of northern Wisconsin’s towns are experiencing an increase in their elderly population. As a result, many adult children of elderly parents are challenged with the responsibility of dealing with the legal, financial, medical and emotional consequences that go along with caring for their parents or older extended family members. Rachel Monaco-Wilcox, an attorney and frequent speaker on issues of Elder Law and mediation, will lead an insightful discussion about the significant challenges of taking care of elderly members of your family.
What do Elder Law attorneys do for clients? How is the job changing? What trends are affecting adult children caring for elderly parents? What are the trends for people who are taking care of the elderly in nursing homes and assisted living facilities? You may be surprised to hear the kinds of stories (and secrets) told to elder law attorneys, and even more surprised to hear what they sometimes do to respond. Rachel will share her experiences and facilitate a lively discussion that includes a multi-media presentation and group exercises to encourage meaningful dialogue for family members who serve as caretakers for their loved one’s declining health issues and end-of-life transitions.
