Merrill boys take care of Medford

On Thursday (Dec. 21) the Merrill boys basketball team traveled to Medford for a non conference match up. Merrill came out of the game on top, beating Medford 64-48.
It was a low scoring first half with Merrill holding Medford to just 16 points. Merrill was able to build themselves a 12-point lead in the half scoring 28 points. Chase Bonnell led the charge for Merrill’s offense in the first half, scoring 10 points and hitting two, three-pointers. Michael Casper also had a nice half scoring seven points and hitting one, three-pointer.
The Bluejays were able to step up their scoring a little bit in the second half, scoring 36 points. After not having a single point in the first half, Zach Mootz exploded for 15 second half points, making three, three-pointers in the process. Bonnell kept up the work from deep making two more three-pointers to bring his point total to 16.
Medford also got their offense going in the second half as they scored 32 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Bluejays took the 64-48 win.
Merrill will be in action again on Wednesday and Thursday as they travel to Green Bay for a tournament, with their first game starting at 5:30 p.m.
