Merrill Police reports

October 6
8:19 a.m.- A caller reported a package had been stolen from his porch. The package was tracked to have been delivered the previous day. Investigation is ongoing.
9:21 a.m.- A caller reported a female sitting on a bench with her two children. The caller reported the female appeared to be under the influence of drugs and was further concerned the children were not in school. Officers made contact with the female and found she was obviously under the influence of drugs. The children were turned over to a family member and taken to school. The mother was advised charges would be referred to the district attorney’s office for child neglect.
11:42 a.m.- A male was arrested for a probation violation at the request of Probation & Parole.
11:52 a.m.- A caller reported a female in a store causing a disturbance with other customers claiming they kidnapped her children. This included pointing her finger through her pocket as though she had a gun. Officers had dealt with the same female a couple hours earlier and noted she was under the influence of drugs. She was arrested for disorderly conduct and bail jumping.
12:15 p.m.- A caller reported her garage had been burglarized sometime in the past two days. Several items were reported stolen. One suspect has been identified and investigation is ongoing.
1:57 p.m.- A caller reported a theft from a boat parked outside of his residence.
3:25 p.m.- A male was arrested for a probation violation at the request of Probation & Parole.
4:21 p.m.- A caller reported a male was attempting to collect belongings from his sister’s residence and the sister was refusing to turn over a mattress and was swearing at the brother. Officers met with the brother and sister and the sister claimed ownership of the mattress. Officers informed the brother he would have to take the sister to civil court as officers could not determine ownership of said mattress. He was allowed to collect other items not in dispute but continued to attempt to engage in arguing with his sister. As such he was told to leave the residence.
9:07 p.m.- A crash was reported at the intersection of E. 5th St. at Hendricks St. One driver was cited for failure to yield right of way at an uncontrolled intersection, operating after suspension and failure to transfer title. That driver was also arrested for a probation violation. Two people claimed minor injuries. A crash report was completed.

October 7
2:37 a.m.- A caller reported a male had caused damage to her vehicle. The suspect is known, however the caller was going to consider whether or not she wished him to be charged or wished to handle the matter on her own.
1:34 p.m.- A convenience store employee reported a man causing a disturbance in their parking lot scaring other customers. The man was reportedly upset that his vehicle had broken down and he was yelling and swearing at his vehicle and customers that wouldn’t assist him with the problem. Contact was made with the man who displayed characteristics of recent drug use. He was also found to be on probation. He was arrested for disorderly conduct and probation violation.
4:58 p.m.- A store reported a possible shoplifting. A female had earlier attempted to return the items and was denied as she presented only half of a receipt. They later found the woman had obtained the items inside the store. The incident is captured on surveillance video and further investigation will be completed.
