Dorothy Evelyn Golisch

Dorothy Evelyn Golisch, age 89, died on Monday, December 12, 2016 at Pine Crest Nursing Home while under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services.  She was born on August 4, 1927 to the late Herman and Ella (Krueger) Scheffler Sr. in Wausau, WI.  She met and fell in love with Roy Golisch, and the two exchanged vows on April 7, 1944.  He preceded her in death on April 18, 1973.

In 1959, Dorothy and Roy moved to Merrill where they owned and operated Pine Grove Tavern, until she retired in 1984.  Dorothy enjoyed quilting, embroidering and weaving rugs.  She also loved to travel, especially visits to her sister in Michigan.  Dorothy will be remembered for her “Golisch Burger” hamburgers and her famous chicken soup.  Dorothy was a member of St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ in Merrill.  She will be sadly missed.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters: Betty (James) Williams of Rosholt, WI and Phyllis (Shane) Herdt of Merrill, 5 grandchildren: LeAnne (Gregory) Joanas, Stephen (Tina Luedtke) Frick, Shannon (Stephanie) Jaeger, William (Sarah) Jaeger and Shane (Tara) Herdt, 6 great grandchildren: Amanda (Jon) Gartmann, Mikayla Marquardt, Emma Jaeger, Evan Jaeger, Mackenzie Herdt and Archer Herdt, 4 great great grandchildren: Michael, Landyn, Jaycob and Khaya, brothers: Kenneth (Joyce) Scheffler and Roger (Doris) Scheffler, sister-in-law: Marie Scheffler and many nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents: Herman and Ella Scheffler, husband: Roy Golisch, brothers: Norman (Rose) Scheffler and Herman Scheffler, sisters: Leona (Alvin) Uttech, Gertrude (Art) Prochnow and Shirley (Ken) Nikula and some in infancy.

A Memorial Service for Dorothy will be held on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 6pm at Waid Funeral Home.  Rev. Missy Holdorf will officiate.  Visitation will be held on Friday, December 23, 2016 beginning at 3pm and will continue until the time of the service.  Inurnment will take place at a later date at Pine Grove Cemetery in Wausau.  Waid Funeral Home of Merrill is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.waidfuneral.com.
