Koch named September Youth Optimist

The Merrill Noon Optimists have chosen Nathan Koch as the Youth Optimist for the month of September. Mr. David Owen, who nominated Nathan, commented that, “Nathan is one of the student leaders of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) for Merrill High School. He works very hard to get everyone together and working towards the same goals for the club. He did a great job organizing the ‘See You At The Pole’ event this year and had a great turnout very early in the morning.”

Mr. Owen also states that, “Nathan is a student athlete and runs cross country as well as participated in the class skit for homecoming, to which he has some awesome awkward dance moves.”

Nathan has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked number one in his class. He has been enrolled in Honors Biology and Chemistry, AP Calculus, Physics Organic Chemistry, English 12 and Spanish 3. Nathan is part of the track team and cross country team, being the captain his Junior and Senior year; Homecoming Skit Group, Prom Committee, Class Officer, Student Council, National Honor Society and Earth Club.

Other activities that Nathan is involved in include Boy Scouts, Wausau Nordic United high school ski team, Fellowship with Christian Athletes, Camp Luther Junior Counselor, National Youth Leadership Training Staff Member, lifeguard and swimming instructor at Merrill indoor pool and full time summer custodial help for Merrill Area Public Schools.

Nathan plans to attend Michigan Technological University to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering. He is the son of Eric and Sherry Koch.
