Getting ready for trick or treat

As children prepare to go trick or treating in Merrill tonight, some of the community’s adults are just as excited about Halloween night. Mike and Sharon Wahoske at 1604 E. Main St. and their nextdoor neighbors, Roger and Francis Wienke, have been welcoming trick or treaters with an elaborate display for the past 16 years. As she set up her treat table this afternoon, Sharon Wahoske noted that they typically get 380 to 500 trick or treaters each year. The children get candy and a little scare from costumed characters while the adults can get a cup of hot apple cider. On the coldest of Halloween nights, they’ll go through gallons of apple cider. They get kids and families who come back every year, some from out of town. Trick or treat hours in the city of Merrill tonight are from 5-7 p.m.
