Traffic stop leads to obstructing an officer; Felony drug charge for Merrill man

LeRoy S. Degner, 20 of Merrill– was charged October 3 with Felony-Possession of Methamphetamine and a Misdemeanor charge of Obstructing an Officer.
According to court records, Degner was involved in a traffic stop in the City of Merrill on September 30, during which he reportedly gave a Merrill officer false information and was found to be in possession of Methamphetamine.
Prior to the stop, the investigating officer reportedly observed a vehicle of which Degner was riding as a passenger, pull over. Degner and the female driver then reportedly switched positions before continuing on.
Following the stop, Degner reportedly advised he had been driving the vehicle from the start, rather than the passenger.
According to further court records, the passenger ultimately admitted to driving.
Prior to being taken into custody for providing false information, a small plastic bag was discovered in Degner’s wallet containing a white crystalline substance. The substance later positive for Methamphetamine.
