More of the same for tennis this past week as the Merrill netters fell to WI Rapids-Lincoln on Tuesday (Sept. 20) and Stevens Point-Pacelli on Thursday (Sept. 22), both with final match scores of 6-1.
On Tuesday, Katie Nelson of Merrill defeated Hannah Wangen, 6-3, 6-1. Alex Zueger of Lincoln High defeated Lea Beckman, 6-1, 7-5. Zoe Gilmaster of Lincoln High defeated Rachel Rell, 6-1, 6-1 and Hannah Nyman of Lincoln High defeated Sierra Severt, 7-5, 6-1.
For the doubles, Kaitlyn Hess & McKenzie Wentland of Lincoln High defeated Cate Murray & Allison Winter-Reed, 6-2, 6-4. McCartney Sullivan & Casey Jennings of Lincoln High defeated Sierra Humphrey & Olivia Wheat, 7-5, 6-6, 10-8 and Paige Vruwink & Ellie Schuerman of Lincoln High defeated Casie McAllister & Haili Schult, 6-1, 7-5.
On Thursday a similar story played out, albeit with more sets per match, starting with Alliey Krusa of Pacelli defeating Katie Nelson, 6-3, 6-4. Jenelle Higgins of Pacelli defeated Lea Beckman, 6-3 (first set won by Beckamn), 7-5, 6-1, Stephanie Vaughan of Pacelli defeated Rachel Rell, 4-6 (first set won by Rell), 6-2, 6-7 and Sierra Severt of Merrill defeated Morgan Kuckkahn, 6-3, 3-6 (second set won by Kuckkahn), 10-4.
For the doubles, Anna Koehl & Julia Grygleski of Pacelli defeated Allison Winter-Reed & Cate Murray, 6-2, 6-1. Katherine Mueller & Kaitlin Rogers of Pacelli defeated Sierra Humphrey & Olivia Wheat, 6-2, 6-1 and Sophie Schroeder & Amanda Cisewski of Pacelli defeated Casie McAllister & Haili Schult, 6-0, 6-1.
That wraps up regular weekly play for Bluejay varsity tennis. On Thursday they will head to Wausau East for a Conference meet at 9 a.m. and then it’s off to sectionals, with the first round slated for Monday, Oct. 3 at 9:30 a.m. at Stevens Point High School and then the second on Thursday, Oct 6 at 9 a.m., location TBA.
