Hatchet football travelled to Stratford on Friday, losing with a final score of 7-62. a tough game from beginning to end. The Hatchets were dominated at almost every point, with the lone touchdown coming from an Easton Phalin to Nick Wiseman 16-yard pass with PAT.

“Tough night for the Hatchets!” comments head coach John Larson. “Going into the game we knew that it was going to be a big challenge. We definitely did not match up well with Stratford physically but we felt if we could match their intensity we could at least be competitive on the night. Unfortunately for us, that did not happen.

“We got dominated in every aspect of the game. The Tigers dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and controlled the game from the opening series. There is no doubt Stratford is a very good football team but we did not play to our potential. It is very frustrating when you have a solid week of practice, prepare for what the opponent is bringing to the table and it doesn’t show up on game night.”

Stratford had 35 points in the first quarter, 20 in the second quarter and 7 in the third quarter. Neither team had any points in the fourth. The Hatchets’ only touchdown happened in the first.

The Hatchets had 88 rushing yards gained but 51 lost for a net total of 37 (compared to Stratford’s 370). They had nine first downs (Stratford 17), three by passing, five by rushing and one by penalty. They had seven penalties resulting in 54 yards lost. The Hatchets had 91 yards gained from seven completed passes out of 19 attempts and 30 yards run back. Stratford had 141 yards gained from six passes out of seven attempts.

“This is the kind of game you forget about as a player and move on to the next opponent!” adds Larson. “The lone offensive TD came on a Easton Phalin 16-yard pass to Nick Wiseman. The task doesn’t get any easier this week as the Red Raiders from Marathon come to town.”
