Rhinelander quad proves challenging for Merrill

After a rain postponement last Friday, Merrill varsity tennis hit the courts at Rhinelander yesterday, facing off against Ashland and Rhinelander (Ironwood was planned to attend but did not make it). Merrill edged out Ashland by one match but both fell to Rhinelander. The final match scores were Rhinelander 7, Merrill 4 and Ashland 3.

For the singles, Ivy Packard of Rhinelander defeated Katie Nelson of Merrill 1-6, 3-6, and then Taylor Vyskocilof of Ashland defeated Katie, 3-6, 2-6. Kristina Jacobson of Rhinelander defeated Lea Beckman of Merrill, 1-6, 1-6, and then Vyskocil defeated Beckman, 7-5, 2-6, 7-10. Belinda Weddle of Rhinelander defeated Sierra Severt of Merrill, 2-6, 0-6, but then Sierra defeated Natalya Williamson, 7-6, 6-0. Connie Rickman of Ashland defeated Maria Grund of Merrill, 6-4, 3-6, 9-11, and Alex Oestreich of Rhinelander defeated Rachel Rell of Merrill, 7-6, 3-6, 7-10.

Merrill saw more success in the doubles. Erica Counter & Ali Schickert of Rhinelander defeated Cate Murray & Allison Winter-Reed, 3-6, 0-6, but the duo came back and defeated Sam Stegmann & Kylie Rackouski, 7-6, 6-2. Olivia Wheat & Sierra Humphrey of Merrill defeated Tianna Voca & Nikki Zambori, 6-2, 6-1, but then lost to Katie Krueger & Hannah Stroede of Rhinelander, 2-6, 0-6. Erin Lemke & Emma Jaeger of Merrill defeated Sophia Root & Jaida Larson, 6-0, 6-2, but then lost to Livi Roberts & Haley Seefeldt of Rhinelander, 3-6, 0-6.
