MAPS Board elects two new members

At its special board meeting Wednesday evening, the Merrill Area Public School Board elected two new board members. The board vacancy was created when former board vice president, Jeff Hetfeld, and former treasurer, John Shull, announced in recent months their intentions to resign from the board.

As per its policy, the board solicited nominations from community members for the open seat. Four individuals filed their letter of interest and resumes: Chuck Bolder, Maria Volpe, Jon Smith and Kyle Carnes. After interviews and consideration, the board elected Maria Volpe as the new board member replacing Jeff Hetfeld on a majority vote; and, Jon Smith replacing John Shull.

Earlier in the year, Brad Kanitz resigned and Paul Proulx was selected as the board member to replace Kanitz.

All three terms will end in April 2017.

The Board appreciates the interest and participation of all four candidates who applied.

Due to the resignations created by Hetfeld and Shull, there were vacant officer seats for Vice President and Treasurer. The Board selected Eric Geiss as the new Vice President and Nubs Ashbeck as the new Treasurer.
