Sixth inning surge gives Plover edge over Merrill

After two innings of duplicate scores and three more innings with no scores, the Plover Black Sox got three runs in to defeat Merrill Post 46 with a final score of 6-3. Merrill generated six hits and committed four errors.

Plover got an early lead in the top of the first with two runs off a popup fly, but Merrill countered with Adam Messerschmidt batting in both Ryan Golisch and Jared Schmeltzer with a line drive to second. At the top of the second, Plover got another run, this time from a hard grounder.

Again, Merrill countered in the bottom with Trevor Asmundsen batting in Justin Pyan with a grounder to second to tie things back up. Innings three, four and five saw no runs.

Plover surged at the top of the six with three runs, one from a popup and two from a grounder, to take the lead. Merrill would be unable to get any more runs for the rest of the game, ceding victory to Plover.

Top hitters for Merrill include Dan Duginski (2H), Schmeltzer (1H, 1R, double), Messerschmidt (1H, 2RBI), Asmundsen (1H, 1RBI, 1BB) and Pyan (1H, 1R). Pyan pitched the whole game, striking out six, walking five, allowing five hits and six runs with just one earned.

Fielding was lead by Golisch with eight putouts. Other fielders include Dylan Anderson (6PO, 1A), Messerschmidt (3PO), Schmeltzer (5A), Asmundsen (1PO, 1A) and both Drew Hoff and Dan Duginski with a putout each.
