Wrong way driving leads to drug charges for Wausau brothers

Early Sunday morning, an officer on patrol in the area of East Second Street observed a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on a one-way street.
According to officer notes, upon stopping and approaching the vehicle, the odor of smoked marijuana was immediately detected.
Upon contact with the driver, identified as 18-year old Tommy Chanton-Khemphomma, he admitted he and his brother/passenger-21 year old Ricky Chanton-Khemphomma- had smoked a small quantity of marijuana prior to coming to Merrill. Tommy also admitted to there being a small of quantity of marijuana still in the vehicle, which was recovered by officers a short time later. Chanton-Khemphom also turned over a grinder with residual marijuana as well as other items of paraphernalia.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered Tommy had a current felony bond via Marathon County Circuit Court and Ricky was currently on probation. The Wisconsin Department of Probation and Parole later ordered a hold placed on Ricky. Both men were taken into custody and transported to the Lincoln County Jail on Misdemeanor charges of Possession of THC and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
