Hatchet swimmers make good showing at sectional meet

While the Tomahawk boys swim team won’t be moving on to the state championships, there was a silver lining to their performance at Sectional.
“In 7th place with 155.5 points is by far both the highest team finish we’ve ever had (before this, the highest we had ever finished was 9th) AND also our highest ever team point total as well (nearest was 119 points in 2014),” said coach Marion Kohl. “At one point, through 6 out of the 11 events, we were actually running in 4th place overall.
“The 200 yard Medley Relay record was smashed again on Saturday – the old record from 2/14/2004 was 1:55.09. Last week at GNC Conference meet the team of Sophomore Kole Svacina at backstroke, Senior Logan Loretz at breaststroke, Junior Nathan Goehe at butterfly and Junior Peyton Hamm broke it the first time around to a 1:54.02. On Saturday at Sectionals, the same team swam almost 2 more seconds faster to end the season with a new record of 1:52.16!”
The Medley Relay team finished in 6th place overall.
Senior, Logan Loretz swam the 50 yard freestyle in :23.29 for an overall 2nd place finish, tying for 2nd place with Jake Schoenfuss from Rice Lake. However, due to a scoring system that considers fastest times from all four sectionals, Loretz did not make the cut for the state meet.
Other podium finishes for Tomahawk came from: Hamm (50 free, :23.87, 8th), Goehe (100 fly, 1:01.37, 6th), and the 200 free team of Goehe, Hamm, Tyler Larch and Loretz (1:37.61, 6th).
Points were also scored by: Evan Ploeckelman (200 free, 2:20.38, 15th), Jacob Miller (200 IM, 12th), Devon Liebnitz (200 IM, 2:44.59, 15th), Parker Knipfer (100 fly, 1:08.21, 12th), Lucas Tjugum (100 fly, 14th), Hamm (100 free, :53.70, 9th), Kole Svacina (500 free, 5:50.33, 9th), Miller (100 back, 12th), Loretz (100 brea, 9th), 400 free relay team of Larch, Svacina, Tjugum and Goehe (10th).
