Merrill High School football stadium to undergo renovation

Project made possible through contributions from Bierman Family Foundation, private donors
The Merrill Area Public Schools has announced plans to renovate Jay Stadium at Merrill High School.
The stadium updates have been made possible thanks to contributions from the Bierman Family Foundation and private donors, and will include a number of upgraded amenities. The major focus of the renovation involves the installation of an artificial turf field, which will increase safety for the thousands of students that use Jay Stadium each year. The turf will provide athletes with reliable access to a secure field surface for games and practices.
“We are very thankful to the Bierman Family Foundation and various other contributors who made the Jay Stadium renovation possible, and we are excited to move forward with this important project,” said Walter Leipart, superintendent of MAPS. “With more than 2,600 student participants and 5,000 spectators using Jay Stadium each year, this renovation will have a positive impact for both our high school students and our community.”
The upgrades will also allow for expanded use of the football field by the high school’s physical education department, marching band and other sports teams. This includes the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams, which will now be able to play at the high school rather than the Merrill Area Recreation Complex across town. Additionally, the completed installation will serve as a space for Merrill High School to host local group events.
The renovation effort will also address necessary updates to Jay Stadium’s concession stands, track and field equipment, bleachers, restrooms, storage spaces and facility entryways. These improvements are designed to enhance student and spectator experiences, while generating increased interest from outside organizations and visitors to the Merrill area.
The Bierman Family Foundation has played a pivotal role in moving the Jay Stadium renovation project forward. The philanthropic organization supports important projects and causes throughout the Merrill area.
