A strong second half by host Lakeland dumped the THS boys basketball team by a 62-49 tally on Thursday.
The Hatchets slipped to 6-5 overall and 1-3 in the GNC.
“This was a better effort by our team,” THS coach Tim Albert noted. “We really competed and are continuing to improve. We’ve struggled in several of our recent games against zone defenses, and tonight we did a better job of getting the ball to the high post and short corner, and that got us great looks at the basket.
“We also did a nice job of inside/out action, but we didn’t make the open three’s we got out of that action.”
Lakeland’s Andrew McGill scored 17 in the first half to help the T-Birds to a 27-23 lead. After Lakeland jumped ahead by 11, the Hatchets cut the difference to 39-33 in the early going of the second half. But the T-Birds never let them get that close again.
Tomahawk scoring was boosted by Justin Jarvensivu (19), Jackson List (9), Brandon Vecchio, (6), Easton Phalin (6) and Riley Tollison (6).
Toma: 23 – 26 – 49.
Lake: 27 – 35 – 62.
