Merrill Police Department reports

December 28
9:16 a.m.- A gas station reported a gas skip. The officer recognized one of the suspects. The officer went to the suspects’ address and made contact with the driver. He was found to have a revoked driver’s license. He was cited for fraud to gas station and operating after revocation.
10:57 a.m.- A store reported a retail theft by two females. One had taken merchandise from the shelf and attempted to collect money by “returning” it. The second female left the store with merchandise. Both fled the scene upon being confronted by loss prevention staff. The staff member was able to provide a registration for the vehicle the two left in. The officer was later able to identify both suspects in the matter. The officer has been unable to locate them and as such they were charged for retail theft and warrants were requested for their arrest.
December 29
9:20 a.m.- A crash was reported in the 200 block of East 2nd Street. A driver had been backing out of his driveway and struck a parked vehicle. The driver was cited for unsafe backing and a crash report was completed.
3:20 p.m.- A male was arrested for a probation violation at the request of Probation & Parole.
10:57 p.m.- A chaperone for a group of students called from a hotel stating he found some of the students to be in possession of drugs. The officer found the items in question to be vaping devices. Some of the vaping fluids did contain nicotine and the items were seized and destroyed.
December 30
10:41 a.m.- A caller reported someone struck a decorative wall outside of an apartment complex sometime the previous week.
4:38 p.m.- An officer investigating an unrelated matter learned that a couple weeks prior a 16-year-old male had shoved his mother causing her to fall and hit her head. He was referred to Social Services for battery.
December 31
3:25 p.m.- A minor crash was reported in the roundabout. An officer is conducting follow-up on the crash before issuing of citations and/or completing a crash report.
9:44 p.m.- A caller reported witnessing a hit & run crash in a parking lot. The caller provided a registration plate number and description of vehicle. The officer was unable to locate the suspect vehicle and discovered the registration plate provided did not match the vehicle it belonged to. It is believed the caller made an error on one of the characters. The owner of the struck vehicle was advised and a crash report was completed.
January 1
2:56 a.m.- A caller reported a male at her residence who was throwing things about and had shoved his sister who was also present. It was found the male was intoxicated and upset about issues from the past between himself and his sister. He was arrested for domestic disorderly conduct.
5:49 a.m.- A caller reported his ex-girlfriend had scratched him during an argument. Both had different versions of events and neither wished to provide a statement or pursue charges against the other. As such the officers were unable to determine what actually took place. A report was completed and will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office.
7:57 a.m.- An officer observed a female he knew to have a warrant for her arrest exiting a vehicle. The warrant was confirmed, the officer made contact with the female and she was arrested for the warrant.
2:33 p.m.- Officers were called to resolve a dispute between a female, her current boyfriend, her ex-boyfriend and her ex-boyfriend’s mother. After that issue was cleared up, officers departed and were called back moments later after the girlfriend found her cell phone missing and suspected the ex-boyfriend’s
mother of taking it. She denied taking the phone or having knowledge of who may have taken it. The officer called the number and the phone began ringing from within the ex-boyfriend’s mother’s vehicle. She had no logical explanation for how it ended up in her vehicle. She was cited for theft and the phone was returned.
January 2
10:25 p.m.- A caller reported returning home to find damage done to her door. Nothing was found to be missing from the residence.
January 3
5:14 p.m.- Officers responded to Walmart for a report of a retail theft incident occurring where two parties removed several computers from the store and were leaving in a vehicle. Officers were not able to locate the vehicle but do have persons involved identified. Investigation is ongoing.
