Beverly Mae Vogel

Beverly Mae Vogel, 81, of Gleason passed away surrounded by her family and God on September 24 at Pine Crest Nursing Home under the care of Ministry Hospice. She follows her husband Robert, her parents Howard and Estelle and brother Robert into Heaven.

She leaves behind her five children, Marsha (Robert) Bloechl, Bruce (Chris) Vogel, Brenda (Ron) Follensbee, Robert Jr. (Amy) Vogel, Lisa (Roger) Kirchman, her nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She also leaves a brother, Kenneth Quick and two sisters Phyllis Gullian and Dorothy Jean Sullivan.

Bev was a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and was active in the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Worthwhile Women’s Club and volunteered at Bethesda.

One way to define our lovely Bev, our Ma and our Grandma is as a Bohemian, which when used as a noun is “a person who has informal and unconventional social habits.” Knowing Bev as her family did, this is an accurate description of her.

Our Bev loved to sing, and at any given moment she would belt out whatever tune would come to mind. She loved to cook, and she cooked interesting things like “black soup.” She also loved to play cards, and for some reason she would always win. Bev also met the love of her life, Bob, in Chicago, and they left the city behind for a small dairy farm and a life of fishing in the middle of Northern Wisconsin.

Our Bev strived on following the good word of Jesus Christ, and she did it by pouring love into everything she did and all of the people she knew. She was always accepting and open and never afraid of sharing her kindness. Bev loved Jesus so much she would have our family sing him “Happy Birthday” on Christmas Eve.

She had a way of bringing light to our lives that cannot be matched. Her informal and unconventional social habits, endearing and strange as we may have found them were what made her our Bev.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 28 at Luther Memorial Church in Gleason. She will be buried next to her husband in the Town of Summit cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. at the church.

A special thank you to Dr. Polireddy and the caregivers at Bell Tower Residence and Pine Crest Nursing Home.
