Merrill Historical Society completes Phase 1 of courtyard project

Construction of the courtyard in front of the Merrill History & Culture Center has been completed. A team of local businesses and donations have given the outdoor space at 100 E. Third St. a new view.
A sign, donated by Mitchell Metal Products of Merrill, marks the permanent home. Church Mutual Insurance Company donated a flagpole which was installed by H.A.M. Construction of Merrill. Scott Streich Landscaping of Merrill donated a 1920s era City of Merrill street light post. Crystal Finishing of Schofield donated time and material to restore the pole and a matching Milwaukee harp light. RTL Electric of Merrill installed dusk to dawn lighting on everything in this phase of the project and donated digging equipment hours.
Phase 2 of this project includes a memorial paver patio, landscape and gardens which will begin in the spring of 2016. The project is being funded by a donation from the Russell Family in memory of George and Nancy Russell and by a bequest from Charles “Shorty” and Peg Ament.
