Merrill Police Department reports

September 1
3:29 a.m.- A male called reporting he was being assaulted by his girlfriend. The girlfriend was found to have a warrant for her arrest through Marathon County Sheriff’s Office. Both provided very different stories to what had occurred. The report was sent to the District Attorney’s Office in the event a charge is forthcoming. The female was arrested for her warrant.
3:06 p.m.- A caller reported her vehicle had started on fire while she was driving. The officers provided traffic control while the fire department extinguished the fire in the engine compartment. A crash report was completed.
8:21 p.m.- An officer stopped a vehicle after finding the registered owner had a warrant for her arrest through Lincoln County. The owner was found to be a passenger and was arrested for the warrant. The driver was cited for display unauthorized registration plate after it was found the registration plates did not belong to the vehicle. He was also cited for operating without insurance and warned for nonregistration.
9:16 p.m.- A caller reported someone had struck a mailbox, the vehicle became disabled and the driver had been picked up by someone. Officers found the vehicle disabled in the 2400 block of Sturdevant Street. The vehicle suffered severe damage to the passenger-side tire in addition to the rear window being shattered and the airbags being deployed. Contact was made with the driver who stated he left the scene as he had to work early the next morning and had made arrangements for the vehicle to be towed in the morning. He was cited for operating without insurance. A crash report was completed.
September 3
8:34 a.m.- A landlord reported cleaning an apartment after the previous tenants were evicted and found a bag containing suspected marijuana. The marijuana was turned over to the officer. It was quite old as evidenced by mold growing on it. The marijuana was destroyed at the PD.
11 a.m.- An officer assisted Probation & Parole after a probation agent located drugs and paraphernalia at one of the probationer’s residences. The officer will be conducting additional investigation.
2:05 p.m.- Information was received that a male was at a tavern which is a violation of his open bonds. The bond conditions were confirmed and officers made contact with the man. The man began resisting officers and was subsequently tased. The man was able to dislodge a taser probe after the cycle ceased and he attempted to run away from officers. He fell in the street and was taken into custody. The man was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia. He was arrested for numerous additional charges in addition to the original bail jumping.
4:35 p.m.- A male was arrested for a probation violation at the request of Probation & Parole after it was suspected he was using methamphetamine the previous night.
6:15 p.m.- A caller reported finding a hypodermic needle in her yard. Residue in the needle field tested positive for methamphetamine. As the suspect is unknown the needle was properly disposed of.
September 4
2:51 p.m.- An officer investigated a theft from a vehicle in the 500 block of Wisconsin Street.
September 5
3:10 p.m.- An officer investigated a potential fraud between family members. The investigation is still on going.
8:11 p.m.- Officers responded to a gas station on East Main Street for a report of an intoxicated male. Male party had driven away from the scene prior to officer’s arrival. Driver was located and based on witness statements and the officer’s investigation the party was arrest for operating while intoxicated.
September 6
12:26 p.m.- Officers responded to a report of a retail theft from a business on South Pine Ridge Avenue where the suspect fled on foot from loss prevention. Officers located the individual and the individual was issued a citation for retail theft based on the officer’s investigation of the incident.
4:36 p.m.- An officer responded to a report of retail theft from a business on South Pine Ridge Avenue. The officer reviewed video surveillance of the incident and determined a male party removed items from the business without providing payment. Still photos were received from the video of the incident and have been disseminated in an attempt to identify the suspect for questioning.
