Violet B. Schmidt

Violet B. Schmidt, age 88, formerly of the Town of Corning and Merrill, Wisconsin, went to her heavenly home on Monday, September 7, 2015, while residing at Benedictine Living Community, Wausau.
Violet was born September 20, 1926, in the Town of Hamburg, daughter of the late Harold and Elsie (Weise) Kleinschmidt. She married Stanley Schmidt on February 3, 1945. He preceded her in death on January 20, 1990. After graduating from high school, Violet worked as a welder in the Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin shipyards during World War II. Not only did Violet help Stanley on the dairy farm, but for 37 years she was employed in food service with the Merrill Area Public School System. Violet was a cook at the high school and Maple Grove School. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Berlin, and was one of the charter members and original teachers of the Sunday School. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, playing cards, traveling, and visiting the casino on occasions.
Violet is survived by her daughter, Ellen (Lyle) Krohn, Wausau; three sons, Marlo (Cindy) Schmidt, Hudson, and Michael (Gwen) Schmidt and William (Debra) Schmidt, both of Merrill; six grandchildren, Jason, Kelly, Becky, Andrew, Alex, and Lauren; and seven great grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Allison, Bradley, Cali, Aiden, and Jacob. Besides her husband and parents, Violet was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Schmidt; her sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Warren Hackbart; and her brother, LaVern Kleinschmidt.
Violet’s funeral will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 11, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Town of Berlin. The Rev. Jeffrey Schmidt will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and after 9:00 AM Friday at the church.
