Merrill Police Department reports

June 29
9:22 a.m.- A store reported a male had shoplifted from their store on 06-26-15 as they reviewed surveillance video. The man is observed getting into a vehicle and that registration plate was provided. Further investigation pending.
11:35 a.m.- A store reported an employee stealing from their store several times in the recent past. The employee admitted to several of the thefts. Investigation continues in an effort to determine exactly what and the value of the stolen items.
1:20 p.m.- A caller reported someone stole a red extension ladder from the garage sometime in the past couple weeks.
11:19 p.m.- An officer stopped a vehicle for registration violations as well as the vehicle operating in an odd manner. The driver reported the power steering had gone out causing her to struggle in steering the vehicle. Her passenger was found to have a warrant for his arrest through Marathon County. He was arrested for the warrant. The driver was cited for false display of registration as it was found the registration plates were not only expired but belonged to another vehicle.
June 30
7:03 a.m.- A caller reported someone had struck his vehicle and fled the scene. The suspect vehicle is gold in color and likely rusty. Investigation continues.
8:02 a.m.- A male was arrested for a probation violation at the request of Probation & Parole.
1:43 p.m.- A caller reported witnessing a theft from a vehicle. The male suspect had fled the scene on foot. A description was provided and the man was located. He was arrested for a probation violation and cited for theft.
July 1
10:30 p.m.- A caller reported a male was attempting to break in to a residence. The male was wanted by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office for thefts including firearms. The male was arrested and turned over to a deputy. A search of the vehicle he was using revealed suspected methamphetamine and paraphernalia.
July 2
3:14 p.m.- A caller reported an intoxicated driver and provided dispatch with the registration plate. The officer was able to locate the driver of the vehicle in front of his residence. The driver displayed characteristics of intoxication. He performed field sobriety tests and as a result was arrested for operating while intoxicated. He was also cited for having open intoxicants in a motor vehicle.
July 3
8:21 p.m.- A caller reported a bear in his yard. The caller was advised to leave the bear alone.
July 4
3:55 a.m.- An officer was on a traffic stop when he was approached by female subject who indicated that she was involved in a domestic disturbance. Contact was made with both individuals and it was found that the incident did not reach the level of an arrest. A report will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office for his review.
2:04 p.m.- An officer responded to a business on South Pine Ridge Avenue for a report of a shoplifting incident. Staff had identified a youth that was found to have stolen an item and concealed it on his person. The youth was cited for retail theft and his parents were contacted.
6:56 p.m.- Officers were requested to assist the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Council Grounds Park Ranger with a domestic disturbance that was reported to be occurring at the park. Upon arrival of the officers, the suspect vehicle was observed leaving the park and a traffic stop was conducted. The male and female were taken into custody by LISO for several different charges.
July 5
8:29 p.m.- An officer responded to a South Pine Ridge Ave business after an employee caught an individual stealing some items. During the course of the officer’s investigation, he determined that the suspect had also stolen different items from the store on two other separate occasions. It was confirmed that the suspect had taken items from the store a total of three times. The suspect returned the stolen items and was issued three separate citations for retail theft.
